Carter invented a revolutionary picking style in the 50s, the “Carter Stratch.” This technique is sometimes called “Carter Family Picking” or “Thumb Brush” picking. Her legendary Gibson L-5, which she used to coin the technique, now resides in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. Her imprint on country music runs so deep that imagining this genre without her influence is impossible.
