The Cats broadway musical adaptation has finally hit the big screen, and the internet has mixed reactions to the trailer release. Instead of using costumes, like the Broadway original, or animation, like the highly anticipated The Lion King movie, the Cats movie is using digital fur technology.
The movie stars celebrities like Jennifer Hudson, Judi Dench, James Corden, Jason Derulo, Rebel Wilson, and Taylor Swift. The special effects, while impressive, are freaking out some social media users online. Reviews call it scary, hilarious and even say the whole thing was an intricate, very weird dream.

— Bim Adewunmi (@bimadew) July 19, 2019It seems like people don’t really know what to feel about the adaptation. While it’s certainly unsettling, some people are finding the whole look to be hilarious, and can’t wait to see the full movie, but maybe more as a comedy than expected.
Were you mad about the Lion King animation? Y'all deserve #CatsMovie. Cats emoting all over the damn place. pic.twitter.com/EjprDnTMke
— MEKISHONCÃ (@mekishana) July 18, 2019Opening weekend will either be a huge success or massive flop, who knows! The movie is set to release Christmas weekend on December 20th. The movie is going to include all of the original songs, including ‘Memory’. If nothing else, at least the movie gave us a lot of memes!
