Mount Helens Eruption

The eruption of Mount St. Helens on May 18, 1980, was one of the most significant volcanic events in United States history.

The eruption sent a column of ash, gas, and rock up into the atmosphere that reached a height of over 80,000 feet and devastated the surrounding landscape. One of the most dramatic views of the eruption was captured from Yale Lake, which is located about 25 miles east of Mount St. Helens.
