Niagara Falls Without Water
In 1969, the American side of Niagara Falls was temporarily shut off in order to allow engineers to conduct some repairs to the area's infrastructure.
Specifically, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wanted to examine the rock bed beneath the falls to determine the extent of erosion and to make any necessary repairs. The dry falls also presented a unique opportunity for visitors, who were able to walk out onto the exposed rock bed and explore the area up close.
