Zoom Lifts 40-Minute Time Limit on Thanksgiving Day so Families Can Be Together

Families across the U.S. will be gathering via Zoom for Thanksgiving this year, thanks to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In fact, this year's holiday is so different from usual that people across the nation are stocking up on smaller turkeys to meet the needs of individual households.

Zoom, the popular video-chatting platform that has been utilized by schools, businesses, and loved ones across the nation in lieu of seeing one another IRL, will be lifting its 40-minute time limit on Thanksgiving day.

Usually, paid yearly Zoom packages can cost anywhere from $150 to $200. The free Zoom option only runs for a maximum of 40 minutes.

The tech giant has performed outstandingly since the beginning of the pandemic when schools and offices across the globe were forced to go remote. However, Zoom stock did plunge after news of the Pfizer vaccine's success last week.

The announcement from Zoom came after restrictions have been re-implemented in certain parts of the country.

"Some people in this country are going to be able to have a relatively normal type of a Thanksgiving, but in other areas of the country, it's going to be, 'You better hold off and maybe just have immediate family, and make sure you do it in a way that people wear masks, and you don't have large crowds of people,'" said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
