In Poway, California, two boys are making the headlines because of their friendship and dedication to each other. When Paul Burnett first met Kamden Houshan in kindergarten, he knew that they would be the best of friends forever. It didn’t matter that Kamden was in a wheelchair, their friendship held a strong bond. So it didn’t surprise anyone that Paul would play a pivotal part in getting Kamden a much needed new wheelchair.
8-year old Kamden was born with a tumor on his spine. While he has had several surgeries to remove chunks of it, Kamden is still a paraplegic and needs a wheelchair to get around. The problem is that his wheelchair is heavy and he has trouble pushing it to move. It has also tipped forward several times. Despite this, the Houshans have little choice in the matter. Their medical aid only pays for a wheelchair once every 5 years, and Kamden’s family can’t afford a new chair. So Paul took to a crowdfunding website to raise money to get Kamden a new chair.
Paul wrote on GoFundMe “Hi my name is Paul. Here is a picture of me and my best friend Kamden⦠My friend Kamden was born with something on his spine and he can’t walk. He has been in a wheelchair since before I met him. I asked my mom if I can go on Go Fund Me to help Kamden get a new wheelchair. His wheelchair has fallen forward many times and that sucks. Also, he has a really hard time pushing it because it’s so heavy. But do you even know what’s worse than that? His wheelchair is too big for him to fit in his bathroom. He can’t even fit through the door and use the toilet without asking for help. If he gets a new wheelchair he’s going to be more comfortable and he’ll do more things on his own. I think he would go super fast if he got this new chair and we can play more. Please help Kamden.” In just two weeks, the campaign exceeded its goal of almost $4,000 for a new wheelchair. They were able to raise over $6,000 and get Kamden his new wheelchair.
