Ikea is a one-stop shop for all things house-related. But the real reason people venture to this Swedish mecca is for the frozen yogurt and the meatballs.
For vegetarian shoppers, however, Swedish meatballs don’t exactly fit the plant-based bill. Fortunately, Ikea has announced that it’s working on a plant-based version of their signature dish.
“I am looking forward to serving a delicious plant-based meatball made from alternative protein at IKEA,” Michael LaCour, managing director at Ikea Food Services, said in a press release. “I hope that the many meatball lovers out there will like it as well.”
The plant-based protein variety will be the fifth meatball type to join the Ikea family. Currently, the restaurant cafeterias serve veggie meatballs, chicken meatballs, salmon meatballs, and the original recipe meatballs.
Ikea plans to test the new recipe in early 2020 and serve them in their stores around the globe soon after.
