Cheez-It lovers rejoice... because your birthday just got a whole lot cheesier.
In honor of the Kellogg's brand's upcoming 100th birthday, Goldbelly has created a birthday cake made entirely from Cheez-Its. The savory dessert (if you can call it that) is fashioned from an entire box of Cheez-Its. For $49, famous chef and Cheez-It fan Stephanie Izard has created a Cheez-It cake made from ground Cheez-It flour with Cheez-It shortbread crumble between each layer of cake.
It's not all cheese, though—the cake includes swirls of sweet caramel, strawberry icing, and chocolate-covered Cheez-It crackers on top.
While promoting her partnership with Cheez-It, Izard offered some helpful tips for making delicious baked goods and taking treats to the next level.
Izard is all about balancing sweet with savory. "I always think about what each ingredient is going to do to that dish and how does it balance out," she said.
She also recommends using well-defined layers to keep crunchy ingredients from going soggy.
"If you just put Cheez-Its in, they do get soggy," she said. "So that's why we bake them into a crumble that we've used."
