Corgi-Con Draws Furry Guests to South Texas Beach

Apparently, Corpus Christi was the place to be this past Saturday. The Corgi Convention Corpus Christi was held at JP Luby Beach, the Sparkling City by the Sea, and gathered Corgi’s and their many admirers for a short, stout, and hilariously cute event.

This was the first annual Corgi Convention in South Texas, but this type of event has grown in popularity around the country in the past few years.

Though the convention was focused on corgis, all breeds of dogs and their owners were welcome. At the convention, guests enjoyed a corgi costume content, a best “talent” or trick contest, and the best corgi bum contest and raffle.

Alissa Bowman, 20, organized the event because she wanted to bring a similar version of Corgi Con in San Francisco to Corpus Christi. Bowman said she found out several couples and their corgis traveled from as far as Maine, Nebraska, and Kansas to attend the corgi-themed event.

Guests believe events like Corgi Convention Corpus Christi create an “amazing sense of community” for dog lovers, and according to Bowman, this isn’t the last time Corpus Christi will see a Corgi-themed convention on the beach.
