Thor might be all-powerful, very intimidating, and the savior of the universe, but one thing he's not is impolite. The scene where Thor hangs his giant hammer on the coat rack was from the mind of the actor. Chris Hemsworth improvised the act just to be funny, and it worked out perfectly. The director didn't encourage going off-book, but even he had to admit it was pretty hilarious.
