The Show Isn’t Shot in New York
Even though SVU takes place in New York City and many of its exterior shots were filmed on the streets of the Big Apple, most interior shots were filmed in New Jersey for the first eleven years of programming. The precinct’s interior shots were filmed in a New Jersey studio after Chris Christie ended favorable tax treatment for TV production. Today, SVU uses the studio that was formerly designated for the Law & Order franchise.
