Chris Meloni and Mariska Hargitay Had Instant Chemistry at Their Audition

Hargitay and Meloni met for the first time at their audition. Hargitay heard that a friend-of-a-friend would be among the final three callbacks for the male role, and when she saw Meloni, she assumed it was him. Meloni played along, and they ended up hugging despite having never met before. She noticed his giant tattoo of Jesus on the cross and asked if he was a Christian. He said no, and that he “just liked [Jesus’] commitment.”
