Interstellar utilized the permanently frosted mountainous region of Iceland to depict a barren, frozen wasteland planet unknown to humankind. In a way, this is kind of how the land actually is. Nothing grows, and there is virtually no life within hundreds of miles of base campsites that are strewn around, sometimes inhabited by extreme tourists.
