Earlier this week, a woman in California got the shock of her life when she found a frog in her salad. Becky Garfinkel had ordered a salad from Target and was about to eat it when she saw a tiny frog in one of the leaves. The salad was an organic baby spring mix by Taylor Farms. She had seen the salad at the store and saw nothing wrong with it, even as she purchased it at the counter. It was only later, after taking a few bites, that she realized that her meal had a lot more protein in than she thought.
“I’m halfway through my salad and as I’m going to stab another bit, I see [the frog] peeking out from under the salad,” Garfinkel said “I jumped back. I screamed, ‘There’s a frog in my salad!’” Garfinkel then ran to the bathroom where she immediately started throwing up. Her husband got the frog out of the salad and started to examine it. The salad had been kept in the fridge for a few hours and the frog was barely moving. But when her husband pressed on its chest, it started showing signs of life.
Strangely enough, Garfinkel eventually decided that she would keep the frog as a pet. The frog was named lucky and was kept as their own little amphibian companion. Garfinkel made Lucky his own little enclosure. Ironically, they had a place for Lucky because they had previously owned a pet lizard.
“I couldn’t believe this little, tiny thing has survived all of this,” Garfinkel said. “We’re such animal people. We got him the moss he needed. He has a full set up. He’s eating. He’s climbing. It doesn’t seem like he went through something so shocking. He’s lucky that I didn’t eat him. He’s so small – just bigger than a dime. It’s disgusting. But at the same time he’s cute. Let’s keep him as a pet… just not in my salad!”
