Though the characters are fictional, the time and events aren't. The Anthony Minghella film was checked by historical scholars and has been deemed an "honorable" take on life in the 1800s United States. Performances by Jude Law and Nicole Kidman also shine, both for their star quality and honest take on life as separated lovers through a war.
