“The Last Blockbuster” Now Has Its Own Beer

There was absolutely nothing that compared to the Friday night ritual that was meandering up and down the aisles of your local Blockbuster in search of the latest film to be released on VHS or DVD. In 2013, when the last corporate-owned Blockbuster closed its doors, that nostalgic ritual has all but died.

That is, except if you are one of the lucky few to live in Bend, Oregon where the world’s last Blockbuster remains.

Visitors to the town come from far and wide to snap a photo in front of the famous sign, the last of its kind, the lone ranger. To celebrate the last of the crusaders in the movie rental world, a local brewery has teamed up with the shop to create an official Blockbuster brew.

10 Barrel Brewing created the beer called “The Last Blockbuster” that they claim is the perfect partner to your buttery theater popcorn and movie-sized chocolate. The ale itself is dark with notes of red licorice.

The beer will be unveiled at a block party in Bend on September 21st. The party is open to the public and those in attendance will have the opportunity to try the new brew. After the party, you can get your hands on “The Last Blockbuster” as 10 Barrel Pub locations for a limited time. So, if you’re in the Pacific Northwest, you’re welcome for the suggestion.

The last Blockbuster store has its own Instagram profile aptly named “@Lastblockbustermovie” if you want a little of nostalgia from afar.
