The Queen of Pop did the most Taylor Swift thing possible while filming her new music videoâshe adopted the prop kitten.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Ms. Swift released a highly anticipated new single at midnight, her first new song since 2017 and simultaneously released the music video.
In the video for “Me!”, featuring Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco, Brendon presents Taylor with a bouquet of flowers, which she refuses, then a ring, which she also refuses, and finally, a kitten, which most know is the key to the pop star’s heart.
Part of Taylor’s “clues” before the song was released included a new mural in Nashville that included three kittens in the design. Fans were speculating as to whether this meant that the singer got another kitten in secret. A few hours after the song was released, she confirmed this with an Instagram post captioned “And then there were three…”
Around 4:25 pm EST Taylor and Brendon popped up together on Taylor’s Instagram Live, as they prepared for their Billboard Music Awards performance. They chatted about the new single, what it was like working together, and Brendon let the story slip about Taylor’s newest family member.
They shared that the kitten was actually brought onto the set of the video shoot through a service that uses adoptable animals in videos and commercials in an effort to get them adopted. Taylor admitted it was love at first sight, and decided to adopt him.
Since posting about her new kitty, fans were making their best guesses as to what his name might be, as Taylor is known for naming her cats after strong female characters (ie: Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson from Grey’s Anatomy and Law & Order: SVU). But in the live video with Brendon, she revealed that her new addition was a male, and his name is Benjamin Button.
It’s hard to blame Swift for taking on a third catâBenjamin is ADORABLE. That is all.
