Sick of Being Indoors? This is How to Exercise Outside Safely

Breaking Shelter in Place protocol is scary (and we DO NOT recommend that you do it), but you must understand that there are more options to get fresh air and exercise while staying safe. 

While it is encouraged that you limit your time in public places only to perform essential tasks like purchasing groceries and getting medicine, you are still allowed to go outdoors. If you can safely distance yourself from other people, you can safely exercise outdoors without putting yourself and others at risk. 

It is important to do research on where you can go without being around a ton of people in your local area. Metropolitan areas tend to have "outdoor exercise hot spots" where people tend to congregate. Whether that congregation is accidental or intentional, it is extremely important to avoid running (literally) into a situation where you're surrounded by people who may not be wearing proper PPE. 

Speaking of PPE, you should be wearing it. PPE stands for Personal Protective Equipment. This may include, but is not limited to: masks, gloves, face shields, respirators, and anything that the CDC has determined is effective in preventing the spread of the coronavirus. 

Your neighborhood is the safest place to exercise. Traveling to other areas where you don't necessarily know how seriously people are treating the virus can put you and others at risk. 

It is important to stay away from communal workout areas. Although it is up to each state's government's decision to close these public amenities, it is safest to avoid basketball courts, tennis courts, swimming pools, and other community workout spaces. 

Together, we can flatten the curve and stay fit and healthy while doing it.
