Rare & Alternative Perspectives of Iconic Events and Places In History

Back of The Hoover Dam, 1935

The Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam located on the Colorado River, on the border between the U.S. states of Arizona and Nevada.

In this photograph, the backside of the Hoover Dam appears as a series of concrete arches, with workers and equipment visible in the foreground. The area surrounding the dam was largely undeveloped at the time, with only a few buildings and roads visible in the distance. Once Lake Mead was filled, the backside of the dam became less visible, as the reservoir covered much of the surrounding landscape.
