Rare & Alternative Perspectives of Iconic Events and Places In History

Before Landing In New York Harbor

The Statue of Liberty, a gift from the people of France to the United States, was displayed at the Paris World's Fair in 1878 before it was shipped to the United States and erected in New York Harbor.

The statue was not fully assembled at the time of the Paris World's Fair, as the torch and the arm holding it had not yet been attached. However, the head and the body of the statue were on display, giving visitors a sense of the statue's size and grandeur.
