Soap Suds

If your kid loves science, you'll be the coolest parent in the world for showing them this neat trick. Simply microwave a bar of regular ivory soap for a few seconds. The finished product should look like the one in this photo, but after it cools, it will return to dust and crumble in your hands.

The More You Know

  • If you have all matching clothes hangers in your closet and sometimes you get one of the really cheap, plastic ones when you need an anti-slip hanger. One solution is to wrap pipe cleaners around the clothes hanger.
  • As trash bags start to fill up, the bag slithers into the bin and you have to dig it out. To keep handled or drawstring trash bags in place, all you need are two medium or large self-adhesive command hooks.
  • If you've accidentally dripped candle wax onto your carpet, there is hope yet. First, put a paper bag down over the wax, then lightly go over the affected area with a steam iron. The steam will help lift the wax from the carpet and allow it to cling to the bag instead.
  • Next time you oversalt a soup, toss in a few wedges of raw apple or potato. Simmer for 10 minutes and discard the wedges to get the flavor back to normal.
