Genius Parenting Hacks That Make Life With Kids So Much Easier

Snow Bricks

Tupperware has more uses than just keeping old leftovers from going bad. You can make every day a snow day with your kids by filling a plastic tub up with snow. Pack it tightly so it can keep hold of its shape, then push it out of the other side. There you go, one full snow brick! Use these to make igloos or snowball fighting forts. Just be ready for the wreckage come springtime.

The More You Know

  • Stow bulky items overhead by cementing together a simple rack from 2" PVC pipes and fittings. Bolt the straight pipe to the ceiling joists to support heavy loads, and screw the angled pieces from the 'wye' connectors into the cross brace to stabilize the whole rack.
  • Short on closet space? Use a lightweight piece of chain to stagger hanging clothing in tall closets to maximize space. Just loop the first link of the chain over the first hanger, and hang subsequent hangers on every other links after.
  • Hollow out a watermelon, slice off the top, and pierce the side with a spigot. Then, fill the "keg" with your favorite punch and replace the lid to keep the drinks—and the conversation—flowing.
  • Rubber bands will last much longer when they are refrigerated.
