Since Syd Barrett was the founder and principal songwriter, guitarist and lead singer for the group, he is the one who gave the band the name Pink Floyd. Syd's inspiration for the name came from the names of two of his favourite American blues singers; Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, both from South Carolina.
