NFL Player Falls to His Knees in Grief After Touchdown

Last Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers were facing the New York Giants when the 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin scored on an 83-yeard touchdown. But instead of celebrating in joy, Goodwin seemingly collapsed to his knees with emotion. He was then surrounded by his teammates who visibly comforted and encouraged Goodwin.

What most fans on the stadium and watching on TV didn’t know was that Goodwin had just lost his premature infant son earlier that day. He found out about his loss just hours before kickoff. He made his announcement on his Instagram account and asked for fans and friends to pray for his family, especially his wife, Morgan Akamomo. He also made sure to thank everyone who shared their support and prayers with his family at this difficult time.

“I just wanna thank those who’ve genuinely prayed for @morganakamomo and myself throughout this pregnancy,” Goodwin wrote on social media. “Unfortunately we lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4 a.m. Although we are hurt, I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan. The pain (physically, mentally, and emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable. Please pray for the Goodwin family.”

The touchdown by Goodwin was made on a play at the opposing 20 yard line in the third quarter with a little over 8 minutest left. His score put the 49ers ahead of the giants 10-6. The 49ers eventually won the game 31-21.
