The efforts to find the treasure were not over just yet. In 1861, the Oak Island Association tried their hand at it. They attempted to dig other shafts down into the Money Pit but all were unsuccessful, as they would collapse due to the water underneath. The worst came when a water pump burst and killed one of the laborers. Things were looking bad.
