MLB Pitcher Gives $9 Million Mansion to People With Special Needs

Cole Hamels and his wife, Heidi, are donating their $9 million mansion to a charity that helps provide camps for children with special needs and chronic illnesses. The former Hamels residence also includes 100 total acres of land and is found in southwest Missouri. Cole Hamels is a starting pitcher for the Texas Ranges of the MLB.

The Hamels are donating their 32,000 square foot home located new Table Rock Lake to the charitable organization named Camp Barnabas. Camp Barnabas said that the gift was the largest donation that they have ever received in the history of the organization. Not only will the location help as premises for camps for special needs children, it can also host a number of events for the charity.

“Our mission is to change lives through disability ministry, and we’ve been strategically looking for ways to expand our ministry outside of a summer camp,” said Camp Barnabas CEO Jason Brawner. “We have no doubt that this gift will allow us to do just that.”

“There are tons of amazing charities in Southwest Missouri. Out of all of these, Barnabas really pulled on our heartstrings,” Cole Hamels said. “Seeing the faces, hearing the laughter, reading the stories of the kids they serve; there is truly nothing like it. Barnabas makes dreams come true, and we felt called to help them in a big way.” Hamels has been a pitcher in the Major League since 2006. He was a 4-time All-Star and the 2008 World Series MVP with Philadelphia. He also established the Hamels Foundation, which helps fund childhood programs in Philadelphia and Africa.
