Scary Airplane Wi-Fi Name Alarms Passengers

A plane from Turkish airlines had to make an emergency landing after the passengers became alarmed at the name of the flight’s Wi-Fi. The flight was on its way to Nairobi from Istanbul when the passengers started to log in to the Wi-Fi. To the horror of all the passengers the name of the network was a frightening “bomb on board”.

The flight had to make an emergency stop at the Khartoum airport in the Sudan because the passengers were starting to panic. The plane and its passengers were led off the plane where they were individually inspected by security. After nothing was found from the crew and the passengers, all 100 passengers and the flight crew boarded the plane again and the flight continued.

“Experts said the Wi-Fi network in question was created on board,” Turkish Airlines said. “No irregularities were seen after security procedures were carried out, and passengers were brought back on the plane once boarding restarted.”

Wi-Fi networks can be created on cell phones and other online devices, and the owners of the devices can choose any name. The airlines did not clarify whether authorities were able to identify which passenger or employee created the Wi-Fi network name.

“Turkish Airlines, the national carrier of Turkey (and a member of the Star Alliance), is one of the scariest airlines out there,” said Andrew Danziger wrote from the New York Daily News. “In the last 2 1/2 years, they’ve had 10 accidents or serious incidents — including two accidents in recent months — caused partially or completely by pilot error.”
