Lil Nas X cleaned up at the MTV Video Music Awards, but the most memorable part of the night was his acceptance speech. When the meme king himself went on stage to collect the VMA for Song of the Year, he also pulled out a giant scroll.
The winning song, of course, was his smash hit “Old Town Road” (remix) featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. He thanked Cyrus in his speech for “taking his career to the next level.” He finished the scroll with a simple thank you, but Twitter kept the ball rolling a little bit longer.
The song first got popular on the app Tik Tok, but the hit didn’t stop there. It broke records for longest-running US Number One in history. Their reign ended with Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” knocking them off the top of the charts, though the duo applauded her song.
Lil Nas X recently released the long-awaited follow up to the hit, titled “Panini”. He also took home the award for Best Direction for the video of Old Town Road. Can’t nobody tell them nothing!
