Community Raises Money to Replace Cerebral Palsy Woman’s Stolen Bike

A young woman named Bridget Kuhlman has cerebral palsy. Because of her condition, she couldn’t drive and walking a large distance can be challenging. So Kuhlman usually rides a special 3-wheel bike to her job at restaurant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sadly someone had broken the lock on her bike and stole it while she was at work. But now the local community has worked to raise money to replace the bike of Kuhlman.

“I was very shocked and I lost it. I was crying because I’m like what am I going to do,” said Kuhlman when asked about her bike. But that devastating news was turned into joy and surprise when she learned that her coworkers at the Arby’s restaurant where she worked had organized a fundraiser to buy her a new bike. Her friends and coworkers had created a GoFundMe page called “Bike for Bridget”.

“I’m trying to raise enough money to buy her a new one, she needs one with 3 wheels and a basket like the one in the picture,” said Arby’s store manager Angie Takes, “We need to buy a good bike lock and lights since she rides it back and forth to work. Donate if you can I would like to get to her as fast as I can so she’s not walking in the dark. Thank you everyone in advance!” So far, the page has raised a little over $4,000 from 150 donors.
