#2. Death Note- Silence

In this episode, which caps off the first season, L meets his end. Not only are Light's methods for dispatching of his longtime rival cruelly brilliant, but the anime drives home the emotional resonance of this pivotal moment through brief flashbacks to L's childhood at Wammy's House, biblical imagery, and more. It's one of the few times where Madhouse took a risk and fleshed out an important scene from the manga, and the risk paid off.

The More You Know

  • Full House: Dave Coulier stole Joey's iconic "Cut. It. Out." line from his friend Mark Cendrowski, who directs The Big Bang Theory. According to Coulier, to this day, Cendrowski says, "You owe me money for that."
  • For a long time, TV producers were hesitant to kill off main characters. The drama/comedy show M*A*S*H, set during the Korean War, broke through that barrier in "Abyssinia/Henry," when Lieutenant Colonel Henry Blake's plane was shot down.
  • The "blue sky" in Breaking Bad was actually rock candy.
  • Family Matters: The infamous theme song "As Days Go By" wasn't always the theme song. "What A Wonderful World" was used in the pilot (though it has been replaced with "As Days Go By" in syndicated versions of the show).
