Her sexuality had been speculated in the media for years, especially after her longstanding friendship with Tessa Thompson. She had kept quiet on the subject but finally said: "I'm open to learning more about who I am [...] Being a queer black woman in America [...] someone who has been in relationships with both men and women..."
